A sundial compass is a strange and lovely object. Open the lid, let the gnomon rise, point the needle north — and the shadow tells you the hour. It is how travellers found their way and kept their time for four hundred years before either was taken for granted.
We make ours the old way, in solid brass, and then we put your words on it.

Genuinely handmade, genuinely ours
We are not a reseller. Every compass is finished and engraved in our own workshop, on our own machines. The brass is cast, turned, hand-polished, and given an antique patina that deepens rather than flakes. The engraving is cut into the metal with a fiber laser — not printed, not etched onto a sticker, not a lacquer transfer that lifts at the edges in a year. It is cut into the brass. It will outlast you.
A Working Compass and Sundial, Not a Replica
The compass works. So does the sundial.
This is not a prop. The needle is jewelled and floats true. Set the hour ring to your latitude, raise the gnomon, align the needle to north, and the shadow falls on the correct hour. It is accurate to roughly ten minutes, which is a remarkable thing for an instrument with no moving parts and no battery.
Custom Engraving: Text, Photo or Handwriting
What you can engrave
The hinged lid takes up to 40 characters — a name, a date, coordinates, a short line. The inner face takes up to 80 characters for something longer. You will see exactly how your text will sit on the brass in the live preview before you order, and what you approve is what we cut.
Coordinates of the place you met. The date you married. A line from the reading at the funeral. "Not all those who wander are lost," which we have engraved more times than we can count and are still not tired of.
It arrives ready to give
Each compass ships in a wooden gift box with a soft interior. No pricing anywhere on the packaging. If you are sending it straight to the recipient, tell us at checkout and we will include a handwritten note card at no charge.
